Youth Work

"Being here has helped me develop as a person. I've made friends; I've been able to accept myself for what I am, I've been able to build bridges over family troubles and most importantly I've been able to be myself for the first time." (Nick, tenant)

Our youth work includes activities and sports sessions in our Activity Centre on site, "Come Dine With Me" sessions where young people learn about independent living and healthy eating, and music workshops. We also work with young people in their own space, places they have chosen for themselves- street corners, parks and outside shops. We chat with them about a variety of topics, including relationships/family issues, local community issues, drugs & alcohol, law & order, sexual health, bereavement, domestic abuse and self harm.

We run a number of youth activities in Colchester, funded by Youth Opportunity Fund, High Sheriff's fund and Essex County Council. Work is carried out at youth groups including Myland and other detached work in Colchester.
